1.) Wireless FM Transmitter to broadcast audio without wires:

The transmission is sent from the FM Transmitter to the audio receiver. For example you transmit your iPod to your FM Stereo.

2.) Wireless FM Transmitter with no wires between the FM Transmitter and audio source but there is still a wire to power the FM Transmitter:

Under this option, no wires are between the FM Transmitter and your audio source. For example the audio source and FM Transmitter connects directly together.

This type of connection is usually via a pin connection (e.x. iPod) or there is a cradle to hold the audio source.

 

3.) Wireless FM Transmitter with no wires to power the FM Transmitter but there is still a wire to connect to the audio:

Under this scenario, no wires are required to power the FM Transmitter but there is a wire to connect to the audio source.

For example the FM Transmitter is powered by batteries but you still need a stereo cable to get the audio into the FM Transmitter.

4.) Wireless FM Transmitter with no wires to power the FM Transmitter AND no wires to connect to the audio source:

Another option is to have the FM Transmitter connect to the audio source directly while also drawing its power from the audio source, most of these FM Transmitters are for iPods.
